Despite the company's continued release of its popular line of arcade games, Namco Bandai noted huge losses from shares during its second consecutive session last Thursday. Nearly one-fifth of the stock from the company's arcade holdings were lost during its second consecutive session last Thursday.
The reason behind this was due to the fact that kids in Japan would much rather spend their time home playing on their consoles rather than go to the malls and play games on the arcades.
Company spokesman Yuji Machida explained this by saying: "A lot of the types of games that people played at an arcade can now be done at home". With the Wii's successful sales last Christmas, consumers now prefer to invest their money on hardware or software for the console instead.
Sega Sammy Holdings, another arcade operator, plans to close around 100 of its arcades due to falling stocks as well.
