Nintendo-GameStop Wii Rain Checks didn't do well as expected

After Nintendo and GameStop launched their Wii rain check program, people were expecting the rain checks to run out within the short promotional period of December 20 to 21. However, the rain check program didn't turn out to be a success, as was expected.

Some GameStop store managers said that despite promotional signage and phone calls, several stores were not able to sell through their rain checks. As a result of the cool reception, GameStop reportedly extended the rain check program.

Despite the current Wii shortage, it is indeed strange why people wouldn't snap up the chance of reserving Wiis for only US 249.99, without any price increase. It seems that some people may just prefer to pay inflated prices to scalpers or line up in long queues in front of retail stores, instead of just waiting until the end of January.
